On Monday 23 February, IBSA CEO, Sharon Robertson was in Canberra for the TAFE Directors Australia (TDA) hosted 2020 TAFE Meets Parliament event.
Bringing together Ministers, parliamentarians and senior TAFE and industry executives, the event’s focus was on the power of TAFE and how important the TAFE system is to Australia and to student development.
“The contribution that TAFEs make to innovation and inclusive economic growth across the country is enormous,” says Sharon, “and this was an opportunity to showcase their activities and capabilities, and the successful career paths that follow for graduates.”
The event’s keynote speaker, James White (2019 ACT VET Apprentice of the Year) is a prime example of that success. He completed a Certificate III in Carpentry (CPC30211) at Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) and believes that “the value of TAFE is the skills and the confidence that it gave me and the road that it’s taken me to in project management.”
TDA is the peak national body representing TAFE institutes and university TAFE divisions. To support its work, TDA engages with TAFE leaders, including dual sector universities and works in partnership with the Victorian TAFE Association which brings Victorian members together. TDA also collaborates with its corporate partners to develop initiatives and priorities for mutual benefit.
