Sharon Robertson, CEO of IBSA was invited by the Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash to attend an International Skills Engagement Forum. The Forum discussed international vocational education and training (VET) strategies to position Australia as a global leader in the provision of VET policy, systems and frameworks.

This event presented a timely opportunity to discuss international engagement opportunities for IBSA with key stakeholders; an area of potential growth the IBSA Board considered at its recent strategic planning session.

IBSA has received positive feedback from a number of international delegations we hosted last year and in 2019 we’re continuing our international engagement activities to further promote the Australian Vocational Education and Training system.

We have just returned from a productive trip to Wellington, New Zealand, where discussions were held with key decision makers and organisations including the Education Minister’s Office, Ministry of Education and the Industry Training Federation. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the strengths of our respective vocational education and training (VET) systems and how to better meet emerging skills needs. Click here to find out more about the strengths of the respective VET systems, along with the challenges they face.

Building on our research and conference on Industry 4.0, we’ve been in discussion with a number of manufacturers in Germany this month. The purpose of these consultations was to learn more about the organisations and their role in the German manufacturing sector, the trends occurring in manufacturing in Germany and the issues they foresee in relation to future skills development.

We will have a report available shortly which will highlight the international industry insights gathered from this visit.

IBSA looks forward to continuing to develop the relationships with key stakeholders established during our visits to further inform our work and organisational capabilities. We’ll also continue to identify international engagement opportunities that can help shape workforce skills in Australia and around the world.
