The Process Manufacturing, Recreational Vehicle and Laboratory (PMRVL) Industry Reference Committee (IRC), supported by IBSA Manufacturing, is currently undertaking Stage 2 of the Chemical, Hydrocarbons and Refining 2017 Project.
With industry support, IBSA Manufacturing sought and was granted a project variation to take a staged approach to the project to allow sufficient time for all development work. Stage 1 was submitted to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) in December 2019 (view Stage 1 here). The remaining work is progressing as Stage 2.
Public consultation on Draft 2 of the training package components for Stage 2 closed on Thursday 4 June 2020.
Why we are reviewing it
Our review work and consultation identified that the Certificate III in Process Plant Operations needed restructuring to integrate a number of specialisations. As work progressed, it became clear that the specialisations required 15 new units of competency to address identified skills gaps. The new units were considered through Western Australia’s LNG (liquefied natural gas) Jobs Taskforce, which was established in 2019 by the state government to maximise the benefits flowing from the local LNG industry.
What we are reviewing
- 15 new units of competency
- Certificate III in Process Plant Operations.
Governance and methodology
Training package projects are overseen by the relevant Industry Reference Committee (IRC) and supported by a project Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). They guide the project and provide industry expertise for developing the components. All projects are then referred to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) for approval.
